For recent years, those new technologies related to big data and artificial intelligence brings fresh blood to cloud computing development, and accelerate the evolution of age of intelligence. Now, cloud computing technology is creating a new and different business opportunity and the scale of cloud computing is continuously expanding as well.
At present, there are many players and watchers gathering in Chinese cloud market, and cloud computing has become a development highlight for many companies. They continue to increase input in cloud computing business, making the cloud computing options become the focus of those companies. At this stage, each cloud computing provider pays attention to different aspects, so that they have different advantages.
Meanwhile, inland cloud computing vendors have not combined R&D, ecosystem and business management well yet. It is still in the phase of fighting alone and offering single-track service, and there is no complete ecomodel.
Early this week, Ting Yun published 2017 China Cloud Computing Review Report, which analyzes different cloud computing service providers in the aspect of integrated user experience, performance and availability, as well as ease of use from user perspective. It reveals pros and cons of each cloud computing service vender to offer developers a comprehensive reference to continuously improve cloud user experience.
Ting Yun designed 2017 Cloud Computing Questionnaire involving 132 competencies including computing, storage, network, elastic scalability, monitoring, technical support, and data services to investigate the cloud service capability and infrastructure. According to the results from the Questionnaire, Ting Yun also reviewed cloud service providers in all directions. In below, it is the cloud review questionnaire architecture image:
About validating review, according to a unified deployment via k8s, all cloud service providers’ cloud servers ran WordPress and used Ting Yun Network to stimulate real users to conduct continuous access, and utilized IO program to add pressure to these cloud servers at the same time. In order to help readers understand 2017 Cloud Computing Review Report more easily, we will illustrate the three aspects that the report focuses and pick out the most typical and influential cloud service providers to display their performance respectively.
1. Cloud Computing Review on Integrated User Experience
Looking at the following image and figures, we can tell that Alibaba Cloud received the best user experience in the whole network performance in Shanxi province and Shaanxi.
For more details, Alibaba Cloud got the highest scores in terms of DNS time and packet loss rate. In Qinghai province, its DNS time was 1.42ms only, which was the shortest; in Jiangxi province, Alibaba Cloud had the lowest packet loss rate at 0.12% only. According to Ting Yun’s score calculation system for this report, Alibaba Cloud got 7 out of 10.
Studying AWS statistic graphs, we can figure out that its overall network performance’s user experience was the best in Ningxia in China.
Speaking of those detailed indexes, AWS obtained the highest grades on packet loss rage, and in Shaanxi and Zhejiang AWS had the lowest packet loss rate at 0.01% only. According to the score calculation system, AWS received 8 out of 10.
From the graphs of Microsoft Azure, we can see that in Ningxia, Qinghai, Shanxi, Henan, and Hebei, Microsoft Azure’s whole network performance’s user experience was the best.
In terms of packet loss rate, Microsoft Azure got the highest grades, and in Sichuan its packet loss rate is lowest at 0.1% only. Finally, Microsoft Azure got 8 out 10.
2. Cloud Computing Review on Performance & Reliability
Performance and reliability are the most concerned part for cloud service providers. In this report, Ting Yun made detailed review on this part and graded 9 indexes related to performance and reliability, namely system-CPU usage, user-CPU usage, stolen CPU usage, database response time, IP wait CPU usage, disk IO read rate, disk IO writing rate, server response time, and system load. In this part, we take Huawei Cloud and ecloud as our instances to illustrate this part.
Huawei Cloud’s statistic graph tells that its disk IO writing rate and stolen CPU usage got the highest grades and its disk IO writing rate was 52.34MB/s and stolen CPU usage is 0. In Ting Yun’s score calculation system, the two indexes of Huawei Cloud were within 10 points.
As for ecloud, we can find that the highest scores are on its disk IO read rate and stolen CPU usage. For disk IO read rate, it was 97.23MB/s, which was the best one among all cloud computing service providers Ting Yun reviewed. Generally, ecloud’s disk IO read rate and stolen CPU usage were both 10.
3. Cloud Computing Review on Ease of Use
In the final part, Ting Yun reviewed cloud computing’s ease of use from the perspective of users. In this part, Ting Yun reviewed and graded 7 indexes which included data service, monitoring, elastic scalability, network, storage, computing instances, as well as technical support and service. Differently, these indexes are graded based on hundred-mark system. In below, Tencent Cloud, Kingsoft Cloud and UCloud are the instances we take for readers.
There is an ease of use indexes’ statistic graph of Tencent Cloud in below. In the graph, it is evident that Tencent Cloud made balanced scores on its overall ease of use, but in term soft elastic scalability, network and technical support and service. Tencent Cloud paid relatively more much attention to.
Besides, in this report Kingsoft Cloud’s scalability has the best performance among all these reviewed cloud computing vendors. Specially, Kingsoft Cloud made more efforts in promoting orders, reducing the number of instances in instance pool, and replacing failure instance with healthy instances.
Another instance is UCloud. Its grades to its cloud scalability and computing instances were two highlights. Also, UCloud did good jobs in VM machine failure recovery, instance maintenance and fault notification, as well as Windows and Linux OS image.
Although Ting Yun just reviewed those cloud computing vendors’ single product within a certain period of time and it could not display these vendors’ performance from side by side, it is still a reference to tell developers and users’ cons and pros on some level. Besides, the report still shows their advantages and focuses are different, therefore developers can users can have a general image about those services based on the three aspects above.
