BWH2Go Interview

Hi, could you tell our readers a little about your background, expecially your role in

As a co-founder I have been with since its inception in 1997 and I took over as CEO in March, 2009. Throughout my years with I’ve been involved in a number of departments from Customer Support to R&D to IT/Operations. This experience has provided me with an entire working knowledge of what it takes to be successful in the web hosting industry.

What's the history of

Softcom was established in 1997 by a group of high school friends, myself included. Toronto was chosen due to its proximately to the US and access to local technical talent. It wasn’t until 2001 when Softcom rebranded its hosting services under the name.

In 2003 as and other Softcom Inc. brands continued to grow there was a need to move our servers to an outsourced data center. This move occurred around the same time as the Great Blackout of August 2003 which affected 50 million people along the Eastern U.S. and Canada. The timing was just coincidental though as we had been planning the move for some time. This move allowed us to do what we did best and that was providing high value web hosting services to our customers.

In 2005 it was decided that Softcom needed to diversify its portfolio. Hosted Exchange was first released under the brand and then later introduced under our brand as well.

Once again Softcom decided to broaden its portfolio and in 2008 started offering VPS hosted services to customers. This service was based on Microsoft Hyper-V platform and has since been expanded to include Parallels Virtuozzo platform.

In February of 2010, Softcom Inc. launched the onCloud platform powered by Parallels automation software. This new platform meant could now offer new features to all customers. New VPS plans based on our onCloud platform were introduced shortly after the shared hosting launch.

Can you share with us the target markets of’s goal is to deliver a complete set of solutions to the small to medium size business market from domain names, shared hosting, business email & collaboration, virtual private server, reseller and white label solutions. Since our inception we have always provided quality service to the personal web space market as well.

What makes different with the other web hosts and what's the advantage of

From the ground level up all of our employees have a passion for the hosting business. We have a diverse team with many years’ experience that care about our customers and products and strive to provide the best quality services at a superior value. In the rare circumstance that you may require assistance, we are here to help 24x7x365 with anything you may need.

We found the hosting price from is relatively low in the industry. Can you tell why could offer a high quality service to its customers at such a low price?

Our years in the industry has given us the knowledge and expertise to use resources efficiently and effectively to mitigate costs which allows us to provide value for all our shared and VPS hosting customers. Our partnership with Parallels gives us the ability to provide scalable and feature rich VPS plans at a value price using Parallels Virtuozzo platform and Parallels Automation software.

Can you talk something about your data center and technology used in

Our web servers are housed within Equinix and Earthlink Enterprise Data Centers located in Toronto, Canada and Rochester, NY, USA respectively. Web servers are directly connected to world-class fibre optic networks which ensure that your web site experiences superior performance in a fully-redundant and secure environment. All web sites are hosted on Dell web servers running Dual Quad Core Processors and backended with NetApp Storage arrays.

Can you forecast the trend of web hosting and what is doing to adapt it? will continue to provide high quality services to all shared hosting customers but we see a trend moving to cloud based solutions as customers need more from their websites and applications. We are continually enhancing our VPS product line to keep up with growing demand and will be looking into offering even more cloud based services in the form of IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service).
