VMware Announced Initial Availability of HCX Technologies

Virtualization company VMware has unveiled a new way to enable seamless interoperability between public and private cloud infrastructure—the VMware HCX technologies, at the VMworld Europe 2017 conference in Barcelona. Also at the conference, VMware and IBM confirmed the partnership in allowing more than 1,400 enterprises including Honeywell International and Vodafone to tap into IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions.

Designed to securely deliver hybrid cloud for seamless app mobility between on-premises, vSphere versions or in the cloud, VMware HCX technologies abstract multisite resources and present them to the apps as one continuous hybrid cloud, leading to infrastructure hybridity.

Currently, only IBM and OVH are available to VMware HCX technologies. Customers of the two cloud computing companies are able to benefit from upgrading data centers with the next-generation VMware software-defined data center features, without worrying about application downtime, unstable network architecture or performance that would do harm to their businesses.

Commenting on the partnership, then senior vice-president of IBM Watson and Cloud David Kenny said IBM and VMware will jointly make efforts to adapt the hybrid IBM so that IBM’s customers can take advantage of on-premise systems to integrate with the IBM public cloud.

Honeywell International is among the first 1,400 client VMware environments sent to the IBM Cloud. As an American multinational conglomerate company, Honeywell International has been specializing in various commercial and consumer products, engineering services and aerospace systems for private consumers, major corporations and governments.

According to Vimal Kapur, president of Honeywell International Solutions, it is a wise decision to move to the IBM Cloud because Honeywell International can harness the power of data protection and security capabilities from Intel and HyTrust, while making use of existing tools, technologies and operational processes in the cloud.

“Our mission is to develop the next-generation technologies for manufacturing and plant operators to better address difficulties like productivity, efficiency, safety, security and reliability. The partnership between VMware and IBM makes it possible for Honeywell International to provide new industrial automation technologies for our worldwide customers, for instance, the Open Virtual Engineering Platform,” Kapur added.

Additionally, VMware and IBM also enhance security in the public cloud by joining forces with Fortinet and F5 Networks. The general availability of the BIG-IP virtual suite of products from F5 Networks in the IBM Cloud for VMware solutions portal will be launched by the end of this year. And the FortiGate-NGFW virtual appliance and bundled services from Fortinet will be available in the IBM Cloud for VMware solutions portal in Q4 2017 as well.
